Leadership Theatre

The topic given to us was "Hatred". This word is something which gives us all the negative vibes, which is the extreme emotional dislike towards something in our lives which can be towards people, groups, behaviours, policies and what not.

As soon as this word was given to our group we were really happy because this words showcase the emotional aspect of any human being. so our group started brainstorming over this topic so there came various topic which students can actually relate with but the final topic was decided and that was "reservations" in colleges which we all think each and every student can relate and have opinion on it.
It was really important for us to have more actors in our drama because of the vast topic we took and their came MBA 1st year students who were the bunch of  dramebaaz, since it was important us  to have an impactful drama and for this we  need to deliver the message on the minds of audience, which is the most important aspect of any drama.

The most crucial step was to fit in the roles to the people and see that they can actually do justice to that role or not and we all decided after long discussion among our group to whom the characters is to be given and I can say that it was really a good decision because each and every member played the role as if they have done this so many times, which was really appreciated as they all dis within two hours.

The pre-production stage was one of the best part of  whole day because it created a bond among the group and seeing how many of us had never participated in the drama before, it was the whole new experience for all.

Finally we perform on stage all the anxiety which was among all of us was visible, but that doesn't hamper our enthusiasm for acting in front of the audience. and the drama was huge success what we intended to showcase it was actually delivered, making us all proud of ourselves.
I can say that I learned lots of things through this theater workshop, being a shy, introvert person and coming on stage and acting in front of people was really different feeling I had ever think of. I had never thought of performing drama in my life, this has made me lot more confident and courage to do these types of things more frequently.

Leadership lesson that I learned from this workshop is that it's not just about completing a task but making people doing things which they think they can't, but actually they can do and leave behind many people at the end. A good leader is the one who makes other feel important of themselves and motivate them to do better in their life and also motivate them to at least try once without thinking about failure.

It's a Wonderful Life!!

George bailey the hero of the film dreams of exploring the world and shaking the dust off his shoes. However his constant effort to do right things stops him from chasing his dreams and restrict him to his birthplace. The biggest reason is the loan association and responsibility for the family savings which confines George for not moving out from the Bedford falls. He has a family consisting of wife Mary and their four beautiful children which he loves the most in his life.

In a stage where there is a conflict among public virtue and individualism has become more superficial than ever hope can be a intense attitude to have. All of us at some point of our lives will face or had faced the same situation of George, where there is lots of opportunity and yet the responsibility of our family and civic will always strain us back, devastating our any dreams or planning we had in our mind. That’s the reason the message of hope is not so narrow. Not a single problem in the film was resolved, which was brilliantly showcased by the recurrent theme of the broken finial in the George house staircase. Hope is that thing which gives us some comfort and resolves our life in some way with no assurances for the future.

Captain Phillips

Globalization is associated with rapid and significant human changes.  The movement of people from rural to urban areas has accelerated, and the growth of cities in the developing world especially is linked to substandard living for many. Family disruption and social and domestic violence are increasing.  For example, 2004 New Delhi police reports indicate that deaths in the city of about six women everyday are dowry-related suicides.

Concepts of national identity and of family, job and tradition are changing rapidly and significantly. There is concern that competitiveness introduced by globalization is leading to more individualistic societies. On the other hand, rapid change can encourage fundamentalism, a desire for the past, and a loss of tolerance for differences in religion and culture. The nation state is losing influence relative to global economic pressures, and in some countries there is a failure or hesitation to develop social policies. All of these changes increase the likelihood that vulnerable people will be exploited, and threats to the human rights of less able people will increase.

Conversely, globalization can create new opportunities, new ideas, and open new markets that an entrepreneur may have not had in their home country. As a result, there are a number of positives associated with globalization:

  • It creates greater opportunities for firms in less industrialized countries to tap into more and larger markets around the world
  • This can lead to more access to capital flows, technology, human capital, cheaper imports and larger export markets
  • It allows businesses in less industrialized countries to become part of international production networks and supply chains that are the main conduits of trade

Captain Phillips was confident and believed not only in him but his crew members as well. He was selfless and very empathetic whereas on the other hand Muse was least concerned about others but him. He was never ready to see himself in danger but did not care if any of the crew members were badly injured. He in so way showed empathy towards anybody.

Unlike Muse, Captain Phillips knew the drill in situation of piracy attack. His crew followed his orders, and pirates were unable to locate them. Muse’s plan was lacking strategic approach, and back-up plan, assuming that things will be easy
Both captains are very different types of leaders with Phillips demonstrating more emotional intelligence and reverent leadership style to his crew and Muse uses an autocratic style of leadership

Muse the captain of the pirates was well planned and ready with all the strategies made up.It was a few traits in him that made him to fail eventually. Muse no doubt was very strategic but lack of empathy in him made him lose like when one of the crew members got injured his immediate response was "Just get me out of here! give Irish the radio."
Muses' plan however lacked in strategic approach and a back up plan because he assumed things to be easy like when he stated "It is supposed to be easy. I take ship..ransom.. and nobody get hurt."
Muse if made his crewmen feel that he was concerned and that things are anyway not going to be easy so be ready Come what may, we must not fail, the crewmen then would have probably felt encouraged and would have never failed.

I'd definitely work how Philips did. I would want to be a leader who anyone and everyone looks up to, somebody whose visions are crystal clear, who is confident, who is determined, who is passionate. Because I certainly want to be a leader who develops more followers but more and more great LEADERS.

INVICTUS

"Will it be easy? Not at all. Worth it ? Absolutely" ;certainly something all great leaders, the people who have in all ways inspired people around them to move forward whatever comes in the way have considered to mention in their principles.
Truly inspiring leaders can find the bright side of any issue. They lead not only by a great example but positivity which in turn encourages people to work harder to meet the goals of their lives.

Such people are grateful for whatever they have had or have in their lives. The people, the even small commodities, the opportunities, the everything and anything that exists.
The greatest leaders have a crystal clear vision of the future. They know exactly what and how things must be in the near future. They are absolute visionaries.
Inspiring leaders ought to be passionate. Only then will they ever be able to meet the goals of their life.

Just like the movie invictus showcases Nelson Mandela with utter positivity, absolute clear vision, amazingly confident, and certainly a passionate individual.

The conversation explicitly deals with how one inspires the team to do their best and how to get them to be better of what they think they can be wherein inspiration has it's role to play. One can inspire and make oneself to better as ever not leading by an example but inspiration. Inspiration from anything that makes you do better. Be it anything or anyone. Always make be inspired or get yourself inspired in order to taste success.

Certainly. A leader can indeed make change real and yet live his values throughout life. Taking not only mandela but Gandhi as an example who was responsible in bringing about a life changing situation in everybody's life. People experienced drastic changes. India became free. And yet he followed his principle of nonviolence i.e. ahimsa and won over the world. And so is known round the globe for how he lead his life being an inspiration for generations to come.

Madiba followed the transformational leadership style. Transformational leaders are typically those who are self aware, empathetic, authentic and humble towards other people. He inspired the masses to protest against prejudice and apartheid. Was very supportive towards the followers and was concerned about their needs and wants. He was indeed an idealistic individual. Who was very confident and competent. He changed the outlook on life. He made everybody confident enough that their struggle would definitely lead to south africa's freedom.

"There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain tops of our desires." - Nelson Mandela
Let us all make the words our inspiration!

APOLLO 13

APOLLO 13 the greatest leadership movie among others, the story  tells about the a leader who won’t submit to defeat even when it’s staring him in the face and who won’t also let his team accept defeat . That determine attitude impart belief in everyone around him. Kranz expertly orders his resources with his instruction to ‘work the problem’, facilitating everyone to play their role in resolving the crisis. For every apparently impossible situation, his response was simple i.e "we need to find a way to make it work".

"We’ve never lost an American in space and we sure as hell ain’t gonna lose one on my watch", he tells his gathered flight team, ‘Failure is not an option!’

The Apollo 13 mission has long been a success of NASA, not just because of its successes in returning a spaceship to Earth, but because it represents one of the best examples of leadership and skill on the part of a huge organization in order to accomplish an almost impossible task.

How this story can actually can make an impact on the overall leadership development in one person i.e. through wildland fire leadership toolbox items which contain (Duty, Respect, Integrity). It's really important for the leader to consider individual skill levels and development needs when assigning tasks, just like kranz did while holding meeting with engineers. It matters that the efficient leader take care for the subordinate needs just like in Apollo 13 engineers develop the CO2 filter. Integrity of the leader lies where he/she credit their subordinates for good performance.

The application of situational theory is evident throughout the movie. the willingness of men and leaders to adapt to a variety of ongoing challenges with a sense of urgency both in the shuttle and ground clearly demonstrate leadership goals and abilities.

At the end I can say that success can be found in failure" turn failure into success"

The Longest Yard

"management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things"

The other day when we were made to see a movie "The Longest Yard" the process  I’ve ever gone through seemed so realistic to me. No matter where you or are how you are, everyone each and all of us can rise above our circumstances and achieve success if we are dedicated to and passionate about what we do.

The Longest Yard is about former popular professional quarterback Paul Crewe who is sent to prison.  He decides to create a makeshift team of inmates to face off against a team of prison guards in a game of football.
Paul crewe was the team leader, his leadership style was democratic because he led them do whatever they want, but they have to do it his way. Crewe led the team to victory, which proved that the democratic style was good style to use. Even though he was bribed to lose, his integrity made him to win.
The theme of the movie says that “constant team work can conquer many obstacles”. Secondary “to win sometimes you must make some sacrifices”. The main conflict of the movie is a character vs character type.

We all have one or the other abilities which if recognized will give an opportunity to taste success.  All one needs in life is to be determined towards the very goal. And then there exists no power even in the universe to keep us from our Goal. A true leader is he who moves not alone but makes a move with the team and takes credits for not himself but everyone. Someone who does not make an order and orders mates to GO! But one who says Lets Go! Leadership is not a title or a position, it is certainly a behaviour so why not just Live it?
